Our Story

The Kamloops Society for Community Inclusion was formed in 1956 by a group of concerned parents who believed their children deserved more.

Driven by Purpose

Founded at a time when children born with developmental disabilities were excluded from the public school system, these families envisioned a future where inclusion and dignity were possible. Since then, the Society has served the needs of people with disabilities and their families through a wide range of community activities, projects and services.

Over the years, our organization has evolved alongside the people we serve. As new opportunities and resources have emerged, we’ve been intentional in reshaping our services to better support individuals in living full, meaningful lives. We have shifted away from standardized services and moved to a more “person-centered” model guided by the unique values, goals, and priorities of each individual. We meet people where they are and collaboratively create supports that honor their journey and goals.

Our Office

Kamloops Society for Community Inclusion is operated by a Board of Directors made up of community members and family members who volunteer their time to guide the Society in new and innovative directions. Daily operations are overseen by the Executive Director, Community Inclusion Manager, and Residential Managers. They are always available to answer any questions.

We are located at 521 Seymour Street, in Downtown Kamloops. Our office hours are 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Drop by and say hello!

Our Future

Our work is grounded in the belief that meaningful lives are built through connection, purpose, and the freedom to make one’s own choices. As we look to the future KSCI continues to utilize a “person-centered” model of care and community inclusion to support individuals. We are striving to support individuals to live in the homes of their choosing, surrounded by supportive relationships and opportunities for growth.

Through our many services and initiatives, we believe in fostering community inclusion, unpaid relationships, meaningful employment, and independent housing to all individuals that we support.

Our services are guided by the belief that inclusion is more than presence - it’s about belonging, purpose, and empowerment. We strive to create welcoming environments where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued.
