What is the goal of Kamloops Society for Community Inclusion?
The overall goal of our organization is to improve the lives of adults with developmental disabilities. We work to increase independence and community involvement through our many contracted services and organizational initiatives.
Who do you support?
We support adults with developmental disabilities.
What are organizational initiatives?
Organization initiatives are programs that go above and beyond what is done through our contracted services. These are funded through donations and fundraising efforts. The organizational initiatives include family support, education, and housing assistance.
What are contracted services?
Contracted services are those which are funded through Community Living British Columbia. In our organization this includes the Employment Program, the Community Inclusion Program, the Community Outreach program, and the small group home we run. These services are specifically for the individuals we work with.
How often do we look at our strategies and align them with our goals?
Kamloops Society for Community Inclusion is constantly reviewing our goals and we are held responsible for reaching these goals by our Board of Directors. We have frequent meetings with partnering agencies, families and people we support to ensure we are living up to the expectations and following through on goals.
What are the kinds of initiatives that Kamloops Society for Community Inclusion undertakes?
Kamloops Society for Community Inclusion provides initiatives for family support via Family Networking Events and education, we bring in speakers who are innovators in the community living field to educate our staff and community members and we work to provide housing opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities through fundraising.
Do you train your staff?
Our staff often come to us with a human services certificate or social services diploma or degree. Staff are expected to shadow experienced staff in the field and have the support and guidance of the managers when needed. We also offer specialized training sessions on a variety of topics on a regular basis to support professional growth for our staff, this enables them to best serve the people we support.
How do you select which individuals to support?
The individuals we support are referred to us by Community Living BC.
How long do you support individuals?
We support individuals for as long as it is right for them. Our goal is to slowly replace paid services with community-oriented services and facilitate unpaid relationships.
What is your housing strategy?
We work to support families investigate all options for housing their loved ones, including family or individual-owned properties and locations.
How do I become involved?
We welcome any member of the community to become involved with Kamloops Society for Community Inclusion! Ways to help include becoming a member, helping with fundraising, and board/committee involvement.
